Mets' Tylor Megill: Allows six runs in loss

Megill (2-4) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over three innings.
Megill allowed six baserunners and five runs in a disastrous 38-pitch first inning. He managed six strikeouts over the next two frames but also surrendered a solo home run to Christopher Morel and was replaced to open the fourth at 78 pitches. The outing was Megill's worst of the season, and he has now yielded 15 earned runs over 17.2 innings in four June starts. He owns a 4.81 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 43:16 K:BB through 33.2 innings in 2024 and lines up to face the Astros next week.

Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Homers again in loss

Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Cubs.
Alvarez's solo home run off Jameson Taillon in the fifth inning was the only run the Mets could muster Saturday. He later added a double in the seventh frame and walked in the ninth. Alvarez has homered on back-to-back days and has gone 10-for-19 with two long balls and six RBI over his past five contests. The young catcher is hitting .284 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 88 at-bats this season.

Mets' Starling Marte: Sitting Sunday, MRI Monday

Marte (knee) won't play in Sunday's game against the Cubs and will receive an MRI on Monday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Marte was removed from Saturday's game with right knee soreness, an issue that's lingered throughout June. The Mets will give Marte a day to rest before undergoing imaging on Monday's team day off to see if there's any structural damage.

Marte left after the first inning and was replaced by Tyrone Taylor in center field. It's the same knee that has been sore for Marte over the last few weeks. The Mets will hopefully provide some clarity on the severity of the injury following Saturday's game.
