This is a guide that will show you a comparison of crimson and corruption items.
To get started let compare items pre-hardmode.

Now for the bosses and armor.
The brain of Cthulhu
It for the most part is harder the the eater of woulds but drops better ore.
drops:
crimtane ore 40 - 90
tissue samples 30 - 50
lesser healing potions 5 - 15
Brain of Confusion is an accessories than gives a chance to confuse foes
(expert only).
The eater or worlds
The eater is easier then the brain, but has higher quantities of worse rewards .
drops:
demonite ore 100 - 250
shadow scale 50 - 100
lesser healing potions 5 - 15
Worm scarf, the worm scarf is an accessories that reduces damage by 17%
(expert only).
(Both the brain and the worm drop masks, trophies, and pet items)
Armor and weapons
So after kill the brain you can make some armors and a weapons (there is also tools which i wont be taking about).
armor:

crimtane helmet, cost: 15 crimtane bar, 10 tissue samples.
crimtane scailmail, cost: 25 crimtane bar, 20 tissue samples.
crimtane greaves, cost: 20 crimtane bar, 15 tissue samples.
crimtane armor gives you boosted life Regen, and 19 def.

shadow helmet, cost: 15 demonite bar, 10 shadow scails.
shadow scailmail, cost: 15 demonite bar, 10 shadow scails.
shadow greaves, cost: 15 demonite bar, 10 shadow scails.
shadow armor gives you 21% melee speed, 15% movement speed, and 19 def.

For the most part crimtane armor is better as its life regen buff if very helpful
Still if you are playing melee you might prefer shadow.

Blood butcherer is a large slow sword with 22 damage, cost: 10 crimtane bars.
Tendon bow is a normal speed bow with high damage(19) ,cost: 8 crimtane bars.
Artery is a yoyo with a spin time of 6 sec and a reach of 12.5 tiles ,damage 14 ,cost: 12 crimtane bars.
The MeatBall is a large flail with high KB and 16 damage, cost 10 crimtane bars and 5 tissue samples.
------------corruption
Light bane is a small fast low damage(17) and KB sword, cost: 10 demonite bars.
Demon bow is like the sword a fast and low damage bow, cost:8 demonite bars.
Malaise is a yoyo with a 7 sec spin time, a reach of 14 tiles, and 16 damage, cost 10 demonite bars and 5 shadow scails.

The Blood butcherer is better Than the lights bane.
This is do to the fact that the high damage and size of the Blood Buctherer out classes the low damage and speed of the Lights Bane.
Tendon bow And Demon bow depends on your play style do you like heavy slow weapons(Tendon Bow) or light fast weapons(Demon Bow).
For the Artery and the Malaise The Malaise is better is long spin, higher reach, and more damage makes it better the the Artery.
The MeatBall has no real comparison, but you might compare it to the Ball O' Hurt it which case it is better i think.

Crimson Tigerfish is used to craft the heart reach potion (boosts heart pick up range).
Hemopiranha is used to craft rage potion (Increases critical strike chance by 10%).

Purple Clubberfish is a melee weapon that does 24 damage.
Ebonkoi is used to craft Wrath Potion(10% increases damage).

The Crimson Tigerfish and the Purple Clubberfish have nothing to compare to.
Hemopiranha and the Ebonkoi are about the same.
One last thing to say before Hardmode is the Devourer for corrupt drop worm teeth
used to craft unholy arrows and thorns potion.

Crimson:
Bladetongue is a melee weapon the shots litte ichor bolt the inflict the ichor debuff. It deals 55 damage.
Corruption:
Toxikarp rapidly shots bubbles the inflict the poison debuff.
Best:
The Bladetongues ichor debuff makes it better then the Toxikarp.
ichor and cursed flames.
All ichor items inflict the ichor debuff and all cursed flame items inflict the cursed flames debuff.

Shoots ichor beams very fast that deal 21 damage.
Ichor darts spit in to 2 - 5 darts. they have 10 base damage
Ichor Arrows have 16 base damage.
Ichor Bullets have 13 base damage.
Flask of Ichor inflicts the ichor debuff when a melee weapon is used. lasts 10 mins.

Cursed flames (magic book) shoots a powerful cursed fireball deal 36 damage it can hit two foes.
Cursed Darts when shoot drop litte cursed flames well flying the have a base damage of 9.
Cursed Arrows have 17 base damage.
Cursed Bullets have 12 base damage.
Flask of Cursed flames inflicts the cursed flame debuff when a melee weapon is used. lasts 10 mins.\

The Golden shower is way better then the cursed flames with higher dps a more powerful debuff and 5x piercing.
For the Darts, Arrows, Bullets, and Flasks Ichor will have a higher dps when rapid firing but for slow weapons the Cursed flames is better.

The Dart Pistol shots dart (and seeds) it deals 28 damage and has a fast firing rate.
Fetid Baghnakhs is the fastest melee weapon with an use time of 6! it deals 70 damage.
Life drain is a weapon that steal your foes life (you'd never guess) on hitting an enemy you will get the life drain buff that will increase your life regen. It does 30 AOE dam and cost 10 mana
Flesh Knuckles is an accessory that give you 7 def and makes enemies attack you more.
Tendon Hook is a hook with 31 range.
----------------------corruption
The Dart Rife shot darts and deals 52 damage. with proper damage boost it can exceed 200 damage! It can be used as a sniper up to plantera.
The Chain Guillotines is a flail that rapily shot out chain club things and deals 43 damage.
The Clinger Staff summons a wall of curse flames that last for 45 sec and cost 40 mana. it is best you as a support rule as it has a low dps.
Putrid Scent is an accessory it give you 5% critical strike chance and 5% damage. It also deceases the chance of being targeted.
The worm hook is a hook with 30 range.

First the dart pistol and dart rifle there like the undertaker and the musket the dart rifle has higher damage and vel which makes it better than the dart pistol.
now the Fetid Baghnakhs and the Chain Guillotines i'd say it if you like flails or sword but the fetid Baghnakhs can exceed 1000 dps.
Life drain is better then the Clinger Staff the clinger Staff dps is way less than the life drain plus it give you a buff.
Flesh Knuckles and Putrid Scent depends if you tanking or playing damage.
The Tendon Hook and the Worm Hook are about the same but the Tendon hook has 1 more range.
Biome Chests
The two items below are the best weapons for the both of them.
Crimson:
Vampire Knives is a weapon that rapidly throws 4 - 8 knives that do 31 damage each you will heal an amount of 7.5% of damage dealt.
corruption:
The Scourge of the Corruptor is a weapon that rapidly throws a spear like thing that on inpack will split in to tiny eater that will home in on foes.
best:
The Vampire Knives are better they can be used in end game as a quick heal item for melee players.

If you are playing melee go Crimson it has good melee weapons like the Rotten Fork, Flesh Knuckles, Vampire Knives.
But if you want to be a mage go corruption, Crimson has good weapons like the golden shower and life drain, but corruption has the vilethorn and the band of star power (and magic cuffs).
